Grown Up
My children are grown up.
They’re gone and I’m bereft.
They went out in the world.
Now I’m the only child left.

The big picture is important,
Not nitty-pick detail.
Look up, not down,
Top end of town.
Be strong of mind, not frail.
Look to the far horizon,
See all the world’s far span.
Toughen up,
Young buttercup,
You are tomorrow’s man.
Best foot forward go,
You’re now, not some has-been.
Scan near and far,
No, not the bar.
Somewhere there’s caffeine.

There are scary sights all around us.
Ditty demons for every age.
But the worst sight of all,
Is the lack of a scrawl,
On a totally empty page.

If laws are constantly changing
Then laws must be constantly wrong.
If the laws are astray,
Then who is to say
That the crooked weren’t right all along?

Well-bred English gentleman
With a most attractive knee,
Seeks Continental woman,
With legs and cups of tea.
Ironing and cooking
Would be a splendid plus.
Thrills and spills and other skills
Are matters to discuss.

I know not where it went.
I sometimes find things in the fridge,
But never the time that’s spent.

They were drinking Veuve Clicquot,
And driving Mercedes Benzes.
They were seeing the world,
With flag full unfurled,
Through rose-tinted, star-spangled lenses.

My nose is really rather large,
My ears flap in the breeze.
My tongue pops out to be in charge
And tumbles to my knees.
But legs march stably to a beat
That guides me on life’s track.
But only ever trust your feet,
When bottom’s got your back.

Many moments
Moving mountains
Make my mind more muddled.
Back beyond
Before bedtimes,
Bewildered blurred befuddled.
